Not nearly as good as the original, "There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly!" but as a holiday edition it was cute。 My kid enjoyed it。 Not nearly as good as the original, "There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly!" but as a holiday edition it was cute。 My kid enjoyed it。 。。。more

A great twist on the original story of an old lady who swallowed a fly, this book will leave your students laughing! I would love to use this book in my future classroom when showing them traditional literature and its different versions of original stories。

This book is a classic but let's say that the classic books are starting to get old。 I love this book due to the kids always laughing at it but its so repetitive。 Theres a book for each season and for some reason, people still laugh at it each time like its something totally new!No harm though, great classic to read to future scholars! I used to like this book when I was little, but as I grew older, I started seeing that these "There was an old lady who swallowed" books were following the same path as the book "There was an old lady who swallowed a fly。"By the way, I think younger kids will enjoy this book! The girls love these, I think they’re more three star reads, however they are easy reading practice for Kait and so we will get through all the editions they have at our library。

There was an old lady who swallowed a bat is a picture book that has a series of events where she eats different animals and fictional characters to catch anther。 She first eats a bat and then a cat。 This book is easy to read as it has a steady flow to it。 You may recognize the name because it is much like there was an old lady who swallowed a fly。I read this book to a group of peers and it was really fun to interact with the book。 I am sure reading it to a group of actual students would be much There was an old lady who swallowed a bat is a picture book that has a series of events where she eats different animals and fictional characters to catch anther。 She first eats a bat and then a cat。 This book is easy to read as it has a steady flow to it。 You may recognize the name because it is much like there was an old lady who swallowed a fly。I read this book to a group of peers and it was really fun to interact with the book。 I am sure reading it to a group of actual students would be much more fun as they would really enjoy reading such a silly book。I would recommend this book to any student from kindergarten to second grade as long as they like fantasy's。 I cant see many young student s not liking a book like this as it is funny and a good book to read around Halloween。 。。。more

There was an old lady who swallowed a bat, is a part of a wonderful book series。 It is a good read and I love the word play demonstrated throughout it。 This Halloween themed story would be great for a read out loud to get it the Halloween Spirit!

Danielle

This series invented wordplay。 Still fun and definitely improves based on the enthusiasm of whoever's reading it。 This series invented wordplay。 Still fun and definitely improves based on the enthusiasm of whoever's reading it。 。。。more

For: nonsense/Halloween fans; readers looking for a book that builds off of itself。Possible red flags: silliness; gluttony。

Adorable twist on an old favorite! Bats are very important in our family, as is Halloween, so this one was well-received by the grandkids!

Katelynne

IMO this series isn’t anything special, but it is a fun twist on the original song with the Halloween theme, and the kids love it。

Bella

I used this in a guided reading lesson plan and found that it was great for learning about rhyming words。 Plus it is very entertaining for the fall/ Halloween season and has awesome illustrations!

Our granddaughter, Mayzie, read this book to her grandparents during FT in the pandemic。 She swallowed a bat, owl, cat, ghost, goblin, bones, and wizard。 Sometimes she made up an object if she did not know the tasty treat! Mayzie is 4 and likes this book because it follows a pattern。 Good reading!

This is a super cute book and a nice easy read。 It is about an old lady who keeps swallowing animals。 She first begins by swallowing a fly, and then one animal after another is swallowed to catch the previous。 Each animal comes with a cute little rhyme as well。 The story is short enough to keep the children's attention, as well as the pictures will keep them engaged with the story as well。I think this book would be a good book to teach what a rhyming word is to students in first or second grade。 This is a super cute book and a nice easy read。 It is about an old lady who keeps swallowing animals。 She first begins by swallowing a fly, and then one animal after another is swallowed to catch the previous。 Each animal comes with a cute little rhyme as well。 The story is short enough to keep the children's attention, as well as the pictures will keep them engaged with the story as well。I think this book would be a good book to teach what a rhyming word is to students in first or second grade。 This story can be used to introduce what a rhyming word is and point out all of the words that sound the same。 This book can also be used as an assessment tool to help see if students are actually understanding what rhyming means and how it works。 This book provides many different sounds of rhyming and different patterns, so I think it could really help get the point across to children, as well as letting them have fun with a silly story。 I would give this story four stars because it is a great book and a fun read, but could get a little repetitive for the children if not read properly。 。。。more

I love it

Some of the pictures of the old lady swallowing things are wonderful indeed and very funny and characterful。 The book is completely preposterous。 At the beginning, that seems like a good thing and I got completely beguiled by how ridiculous it all was。 That gave it an energy。 But it has a disappointing ending。

Lynn Davidson

The old lady in this story didn't swallow a fly, but instead swallowed a bat, a goat, a ghost, and many strange things! Love it__ the big part is realizing if the child you are reading this to has or hasn't heard the song or story "There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly。" If not, make sure you read and sing them the original too, and find out which they enjoy more。 Love it__ the big part is realizing if the child you are reading this to has or hasn't heard the song or story "There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly。" If not, make sure you read and sing them the original too, and find out which they enjoy more。 。。。more
